Road conditions have continued to improve across our community, with crews completing additional treatment and plowing on multiple city and state routes throughout the area.

Veterans Parkway has reopened, and significant progress was made on West Union and Wilkinsville. Crews have also spent considerable time in Lucy, including work on Sykes, Chase, and Lucy Roads.

Throughout this winter weather event, Millington Public Works crews have supported TDOT along Navy Road and assisted with clearing intersections along Highway 51. Both are state routes. TDOT teams remain stretched thin region wide, particularly in Shelby County, and we are glad to assist where it helps our community.

Overnight refreezing did occur, and neighborhood streets remain very dicey. Most look much like the Bateman photo below.

Travel should be limited when possible. If you must be out, please slow down, use caution, and give crews room to continue safety work.

Thank you to our Millington Public Works employees, Shelby County Roads and Bridges, TDOT, and our first responders for their long hours and hard work throughout this event.

Due to continued hazardous road conditions and refreezing, sanitation services will not operate on Friday.As a reminder, City Hall, administrative offices, and Baker Community Center are open on a modified schedule from 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM.If conditions allow, our goal is to return to the normal trash pickup schedule beginning Monday. Updates will be shared here and on the City website.Thank you for your patience as we work through this event together.

To provide limited access to essential services, City Hall, administrative offices, and Baker Community Center will be open Thursday and Friday from 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

This modified schedule allows residents to handle critical needs while our teams continue winter response efforts across the city.

Road conditions remain hazardous, and travel is still discouraged unless absolutely necessary. Please use caution if you must be out and give crews room to continue safety work.

🗑️ Sanitation services will not operate on Thursday due to road conditions. An update on Friday service will be shared tomorrow.

Update from City Manager Frankie Dakin:

 Roads remain extremely dangerous after the January 24 winter storm event. While our teams have been working continuously over the course of this event, overnight refreezing has slowed progress across our region.

We appreciate Police Chief Chris Stokes, our Millington Fire Department, and Public Safety Director Gary Graves for providing photos and video from the field to help document conditions and keep the public informed.

To keep residents and city employees safe, City Hall and administrative offices are closed Monday, January 26 with no  trash pickup on Monday due to hazardous road conditions.

We expect trash collection to be delayed at least thru Wednesday .  Trash collection will resume once conditions are safe for employees and equipment.  Please be patient as multiple-day delays can be expected.  Updates will be shared here as they become available.

While most of the winter weather has passed, roads remain unsafe. This closure allows City crews, and our partners, time to continue efforts to improve street conditions and helps ensure public safety resources remain available for emergencies.

❄️ Winter Weather Warning

Snow and ice are creating hazardous driving conditions.

Please avoid travel if possible and stay home during this weather event. If you must be on the road, use extra caution.

Our first responders are out working to keep the community safe, and they appreciate everyone doing their part to stay off the roads when possible.

The City of Millington’s Water Department urges residents to prepare for extreme cold to prevent frozen or burst water pipes. Pipes can burst anytime temperatures fall below freezing, causing property damage and water loss. 

Recommended Preventive Measures:     

 •    Allow faucets to drip    

 •    Open cabinet doors to circulate warm air    

 •    Detach hoses from outdoor spigots     

•    Insulate exposed outdoor pipes     

•    Businesses closed for extended periods should check for broken pipes or leaking fire suppression systems Emergency Water Shut-Off 

Residents should know the location of their main water shut-off valve, often located in a closet or under a sink. If pipes burst, water can be shut off at the street using a meter key, available at most hardware stores.
