FY22 Proposed Budget
The FY22 Proposed Budget has been prepared with the input of each department. The Board of Mayor and Aldermen will hold a Work Session on Thursday, April 29, 2021 starting at 5:00 PM in the City Hall Chambers to review the entire budget including the Millington Municipal Schools. The Work Session provides information and allows Aldermen to ask questions. The public is welcome at the Work Session but public questions and input is not a part of the Work Session.

The City will hold a Public Hearing on the budget at its May and June meetings which start at 6:00 PM, on May 10, 2021 and on June 14, 2021, respectively. This is the time when citizens may offer any comments and concerns on the Proposed Budget.

The Budget and the Property Tax Rate will each be approved by Ordinances adopted at two separate meetings of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen. These two meetings will be the same meetings and times as the Public Hearings on the budget.

This is a reappraisal year in Shelby County. Appraisals are made by the Shelby County Assessor of Property. State law requires the City to calculate and adopt a Certified Tax Rate. The Certified Tax Rate will be adopted by Resolution. The Certified Tax Rate is an estimate of the rate that will generate the same tax revenue on the reappraised properties as was generated in the prior fiscal year based on the old appraised values. As stated above, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen will have to adopt the Property Tax Rate by Ordinance. The City will hold a Public Hearing on the Property Tax Rate at its June 14, 2021 meeting. The tax rate currently in effect is $1.53 per $100 of assessed valuation.
