MILLINGTON GET READY! A Community Emergency Preparedness Expo planned for March 31, 2015


MILLINGTON, TN (MARCH 11, 2015) – The mission of the City of Millington Fire Department is to protect life and property from the adverse effects of fires, medical emergencies, or exposure to dangerous conditions through fire suppression, rescue, disaster preparedness, fire prevention and community educations. As part of this mission, the City of Millington Fire Department has organized a community emergency preparedness expo called MILLINGTON GET READY! The event is presented by The City of Millington, West Tennessee Seismic Safety Commission, The University of Memphis and CERTPlus. It is a free emergency preparedness seminar and expo on March 31 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Harvell Civic Center in Millington. The purpose of the program is to educate the citizens of Millington and help them to prepare for a variety of emergency situations. “Millington Get Ready!” will focus on the citizens of Millington, but is open to anyone who wishes to attend.

The program will be filled with interesting things to see and learn. From 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM there will be static displays of emergency response equipment and information outside and in the lobby of the Civic Center. Educational speakers will be on hand in the auditorium from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM.
Presentations will include:
Impact of an Earthquake on Millington by Dr. Steve Horton, West Tennessee Seismic Safety Commissioner, Geophysicist, Center for Earthquake Research Institute (CERI);
Severe Weather by Jim Jaggers, News Channel 3 Meteorologist;
Flood Mitigation by Darek Baskin, Millington City Engineer;
Contingency Plans by J.D. Dill, Naval Support Activity Mid-South, Emergency Management Program Director.

From 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM in the reception hall there will be sandwiches, presenter question and answer period and door prizes including a 5,000 watt portable generator. The expo will include informational booths featuring Center for Earthquake Research Institute, Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, Shelby County Office of Preparedness, CERTPlus, American Red Cross, Ritter Communications, MLGW, Delta Amateur Radio Club, NSA Mid-South and more.
