FLAG CITY, USA WILL HONOR VETERANS ON NOVEMBER 8, 2014
MILLINGTON, TN (NOVEMBER 3, 2014) - The City of Millington, also known as Flag City, USA, will host a parade on Saturday, November 8, 2014 honoring all veterans for their service to this Country. The parade will begin promptly at 9:00 AM and will travel along Navy Road between Newport and C Streets. This will be the first Veterans' Parade in the Flag City since 1974. The support for the event has been tremendous. There will be a great number of veteran organizations participating in the parade as well as civic groups, businesses and schools who wish to honor our veterans. Following the parade, VFW Post 7175 will host a community cookout at the VFW located 4681 Cuba - Millington Road in Millington.
The military has always played an integral role in the history of Millington and a large percentage of the population are retired military and their families. Millington is also home to many active duty military personnel who serve on board Naval Support Activity Mid-South. The base in Millington serves as the Navy’s Human Resources Center of Excellence, and home to Navy Personnel Command, Navy Recruiting Command, the Navy Manpower Analysis Center, as well as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Finance Center. More than 7,500 military, civilian, and contract personnel are assigned/work on the base in Millington.
