CITY OF MILLINGTON ARTS RECREATION & PARKS LAUNCHES SUMMER OF FUN

MILLINGTON, TENNESSEE (JUNE 9, 2014) - If you are looking for something to do this summer, Millington Arts, Recreation & Parks has a summer of fun planned for the entire family. In addition to youth sports and a variety of senior programming, the department has a few new and exciting activities planned for June and July. "The Summer of Fun programming is designed to engage the community in something fun and educational," said Kate Armitage, Director of Arts, Recreation & Parks. "I particularly like that the we are bringing much of the programming into our parks. This not only better utilizes our green spaces, but makes it convenient for families to walk to the parks for events," said Armitage.

The Summer of Fun Environmental Club and Arts in the Parks programs not only engage the community but will also improve the aesthetics. These programs will meet in different parks each week. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult or must be pre registered with the department. The Environmental Club meets every Monday from 9 AM - noon for a fun and educational program that includes a hands on landscaping improvement project in a Millington park. The program is open to all age groups. All materials will be provided and there is no fee to participate. Every Wednesday morning the Harvell Civic Center Gym is open from 9:00 AM - noon for roller skating. The cost is $5 per skater. Fridays are set aside for Arts in the Parks from 9:00 AM - noon. Join this group and spruce up Millington's parks with a splash of paint. Just bring your imagination! All materials will be provided and there is no fee to participate. This program is open to all ages.
