MILLINGTON'S CONNECTION TO THE MID-SOUTH REGIONAL GREENPRINT
MILLINGTON, TENNESSEE (February 28, 2014) - The public is invited and encouraged to attend an upcoming Millington Greenprint meeting at the Baker Community Center on May 8th at 5:30 PM. At this meeting the public will be invited to ask questions, share comments and brainstorm ideas for Millington's future Greenprint.
The Mid-South Regional Greenprint is a plan to build a connected system of green space to link communities, connect people to everyday destinations, promote community health and enhance accessibility throughout the region. The mission of the Greenprint is to establish a unified vision for the a region-wide network of greenspace areas including: parks, greenways, bike trails, walking paths, byways, blueways, conservation lands, natural areas, wildlife management areas, open spaces, farms and community gardens and water management areas.
Nonprofit organizations, businesses, local and state government agencies, colleges and universities and citizen groups are acting together as the Mid-South Regional Greenprint Consortium to connect Shelby County, Crittenden County Arkansas, Desoto County Mississippi and Fayette County Tennessee.
Public input is an important component of the plan. The planning process includes visioning, data collection and mapping neighborhoods and environmental assets, establishing priorities for greenways and surrounding developments, enhancing transportation alternatives and conducting a regional greenways health impact assessment. Please make plans to attend and share your ideas as Millington develops local plans to enhance livability and sustainability for the future.
