On Friday, November 18, the contractor is planning to direct traffic onto the newly paved portions of Veterans Parkway and Church Street, that is, just south of the RR tracks on Church Street. The plan is to shift the traffic from the southbound lanes of Raleigh-Millington (Church St) over to the northbound lanes. The traffic will remain two-way, but just shifting from the western lanes and bridge over to the eastern lanes and bridge. The traffic control north of the RR tracks will remain similar, with southbound traffic being merged into the left southbound lane instead of the right lane. The traffic control on Old Raleigh Millington will remain the same for now.
On Monday, November 28, the contractor is planning to begin to cut a trench across Highway 51 for installation of a large drain culvert. One “side” of the highway will be closed and the other side will be used for two-way traffic. The trench will be cut, and the work will progress from east to west. First, northbound traffic will be directed over to the southbound lanes (or the west side) resulting in two-way traffic there. The drain will be installed on the east side of the highway. After the east installation is completed, the traffic will be directed over to the northbound lanes (or eastern side), etc. The contractor is going to work quickly to complete this installation to minimize the impact, but it is unavoidable. This work should take about 4 days to complete.
