MILLINGTON, TENNESSEE (MAY 12, 2014) - Ms. Sabra Cupples, dispatcher for Millington Police Department since 2007 has been promoted to Lead Dispatcher. Cupples will be supervising the functions of the dispatch area, making schedules and coordinating training schedules. Dispatch is a vitally important to effectiveness of a Police Department. Millington dispatch receives and processes emergency and non-emergency calls.

An effective dispatcher has excellent communication skills and the ability to listen and speak plainly often to people in distress. Dispatchers must also be able to multitask. They are often required to move a lot of people around at the same time, tracking their movements and keeping tabs on their needs. Problem solving and the ability to think and react quickly are essential when important situations need to be prioritized. Most importantly, emergency dispatchers need empathy, compassion and calm nature.

“Sabra Cupples is a strong leader. She has demonstrated knowledge and competency in dispatch over the years. She goes above and beyond to assist citizens and her co-workers. Sabra Cupples will do a fine job serving the citizens of Millington and the department as Lead Dispatcher,” said Chief Rita Stanback.
