MILLINGTON, TENNESSEE (January 24, 2014) - The primary purpose of wastewater treatment is to protect the health and wellbeing of the community. The Environmental Protection Agency closely regulates the operations of these facilities. One of the ways they measure quality and standards of operation is by sending samplings to be tested in the on site laboratory to measure the accuracy of the lab and the expertise of the operators.
The City of Millington's Waste Water Treatment Facility has received a pass rate of 100% on the EPA's National Pollutant Discharge Monitoring Quality Assurance Test for 2013. This makes 14 consecutive years Millington's Treatment Facility has received the highest possible acceptance rating.
"I am proud of our team here. They are well qualified and understand the importance of their work in protecting the community, life and health," said David Dunn Plant Manager. The Wastewater Treatment Facility is vitally important for the health of the Millington community as well as future residential and industrial growth. Proper wastewater treatment and disposal is as important for protecting community health as drinking water treatment, garbage collection and immunization programs. Wastewater management encompasses a broad range of efforts that promote effective and responsible water use, treatment and disposal.
Millington's plant was brought online in 1984 and operates 7 days per week, 365 days per year. The last major plant improvement project was in 1993 with the addition of a Sulfur Dioxide System that removes chlorine prior to water discharge. "It is a real testament to the hardwork and dedication of our whole work crew that the plant operates at these high standards with equipment that has surpassed it's life expectancy by a decade," said Dunn. The plant has just begun a complete rehabilitation with much needed upgrades scheduled for completion in 2014.
