Update from City Manager Frankie Dakin:
Roads remain extremely dangerous after the January 24 winter storm event. While our teams have been working continuously over the course of this event, overnight refreezing has slowed progress across our region.
Neighborhood and local routes across the city largely resemble the Bateman photo attached. These roads have seen varying degrees of treatment and plowing by City crews and our Shelby County and state partners, but all remain hazardous, especially for vehicles that are not four wheel drive.
We appreciate Police Chief Chris Stokes, our Millington Fire Department, and Public Safety Director Gary Graves for providing photos and video from the field to help document conditions and keep the public informed.
Travel is still strongly discouraged. Please do your part to stay off the roads and allow crews to maintain emergency access and continue critical safety work. This was a massive event, our teams are working overtime, and we'll get through this as a community.
